The Graduate Institute of East Asian Studies (hereafter referred to as "the Institute") held a talk on February 26, 2025, featuring Professor Pascale Massot from the University of Ottawa, Canada. The talk, delivered in English and titled "China's Vulnerability Paradox: How the World's Largest Consumer Transformed Global Commodity Markets", introduced Professor Massot's recently published book of the same title.

Drawing on interviews with over 160 individuals—including representatives from private enterprises, government officials, academics, think tank experts, and media personnel from both China and around the world—the book offers an in-depth examination of China's role in global commodity markets. It analyzes the paradox between China's vulnerability as the world's largest consumer and its significant influence on these markets.

The event was moderated by Professor Chung-Min Tsai (蔡中民) of the Department of Political Science and attracted an enthusiastic audience, including faculty and students from various departments of the university, visiting scholars from Taiwan, and international think tank researchers.
