Regulations for Master's Students of the Graduate Institute of East Asian Studies at National Chengchi University to Pursue a Doctoral Degree Directly

Article 1: These regulations are established in accordance with Article 22, Item 5 of the University Act, the "Regulations for Master's Students of Universities to Pursue a Doctoral Degree Directly" issued by the Ministry of Education, and the "Operational Guidelines for Master's Students of National Chengchi University to Pursue a Doctoral Degree Directly."

Article 2: The number of doctoral research positions, duration of study, procedures for returning to the master's program, and the awarding of degrees for students pursuing doctoral studies directly are governed by the Ministry of Education's "Regulations for Master's Students of Universities to Pursue a Doctoral Degree Directly" and the relevant regulations of National Chengchi University.

Article 3: To apply for direct admission to the doctoral program, a master's student must meet the following criteria:

  1. Have completed at least one year of study and earned at least 18 credits in the first two semesters.
  2. Submit a research proposal and representative semester reports or academic works that demonstrate research potential, which must be reviewed and approved.
  3. Receive recommendations from at least two professors from the Graduate Institute or related departments (or graduate institutes) at the university.

Article 4: Applicants must submit the following documents and works to the department by April 30th of each year (if this date falls on a holiday, the deadline will be the preceding working day) for review by the administrative meeting:

  1. An application form.
  2. An original transcript of the master's program.
  3. An original undergraduate transcript.
  4. Five copies of a personal statement.
  5. Five copies of the research proposal.
  6. Five copies of a list of works and representative semester reports or academic works (co-authored works should be clearly noted).
  7. Five copies of other materials that help demonstrate the applicant's academic research potential.
  8. Two recommendation letters (from at least two professors from the Graduate Institute or relevant departments of the university).

Article 5: The evaluation of applicants will be based on the following criteria:

  1. Written materials account for 50% (including university and graduate school transcripts, research proposal, academic works, and representative semester reports).
  2. Oral exam results account for 50%.

Article 6: After confirming that the applicant meets the qualifications, the results will be submitted for approval by the university president, then forwarded to the Office of Academic Affairs for Ministry of Education record. Upon approval, the student may pursue the doctoral degree directly.

Article 7: These regulations will be implemented upon approval by the administrative meeting and will also apply to any subsequent amendments.
